Ski Season Packing List

It's hard to know what you will need to pack to go and do a ski season, especially if you've never done one before. I've put together a list of everything I pack in the hope that someone will find it useful!

Let's start with the basics, you're going to need socks, underwear and pyjamas. I try to pack enough for 10 days, so I can do a wash every week or so and still have enough to spare. Make sure to remember sports bras, and pyjamas that will be warm enough for the cold climate.

For work, I am provided with t-shirts and a soft shell jacket and just need to provide my own black trousers and black shoes. I take 2 pairs of trousers so I don't end up wearing the same pair every day for 5 months, one pair of black trainers for indoors and one pair of black boots for outdoors. However in many job roles a pair of boots aren't necessary, your employer will usually help advise what you should pack in terms of workwear.

I would also take an additional pair of trainers for general day-to-day wear when you're not at work, as well as a pair of boots for trudging through the snow on your walk to work or on particularly snowy nights out.

In terms of ski's/a snowboard, it's up to you whether you want to take your own or hire equipment when you're there. Just remember your bindings and boots if you do take your own! You will also need protection so you will need a helmet at the least. Things like knee pads are optional but advised if you're a beginner snowboarder! You'll also need goggles and gloves, and a gaiter is recommended for the colder days.

You will need thermals to keep warm. I take 3 pairs of thermal trousers and 5 long sleeve thermal tops. I also take 2 fleeces for an extra layer of warmth. This is enough to last me between weekly washes as you don't ski every day. Don't forget ski socks (probably about 5 pairs), salopettes and a coat. If possible, get a coat you can wear both on and off the slopes to save taking 2.

Although they're not essential, a beanie, scarf and mittens are great for keeping warm around the resort. You'll also want some casual clothing for when you're neither at work or on the slopes. I take 2 pairs of casual trousers, a pair of sweatpants, 2 knitted jumpers, 2 sweatshirts and some long and short sleeve t-shirts. You may also want to pack a casual, more lightweight jacket.

Surprisingly for me, it got pretty hot at the end of the season as the snow melted. So hot that I wore shorts and a tank top, so it might be useful to have them on hand just in case. I also found a bikini useful as some resorts have swimming pools.

The accommodation you're in can vary, but it's best to assume nothing but sheets and kitchen items will be provided for you. You can always buy things when you're there but I would recommend taking your own towel as well as a toothbrush, hairbrush, hair bobbles and any hair and skincare products and perfume you use, as the local supermarket isn't likely to stock your favourite skincare brands. I would take one of each product and if you need any more throughout the season you can order more online. I would also take a travel sized toothpaste, deodorant, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, just to get you going until you make a trip to the shops. The first few days can be quite busy and overwhelming.

If you're going abroad, chances are you'll need an adaptor for your phone charger, you might even want to take a camera or laptop to capture the memories and watch Netflix in the evenings. You'll want to take headphones as well so you don't keep your roommates up. A purse/wallet is usually useful for storing money and a small first aid kit with painkillers, plasters and any medication you may take would be handy. A water bottle is good to take to work and to pack in your backpack for the slopes, although some days you may opt to take a smaller bag, such as a cross body bag. Some people like to have a notebook and pen to write things down or keep a journal. A pack of cards is always useful and some photos to put up on your wall would be nice to remind you of home. Finally, jewellery and makeup are optional but your passport and any necessary travel documents are not!
