Fashion: Fad or Forever?

Trends come and go with the seasons, but how do we know which ones will follow the route of the LBD and remain close to us throughout it all? Flares made a comeback but will we ever see people layering a dress over jeans again? Here I will be looking at some key current trends and making my own predictions on whether they will stand the test of time or be forgotten in a matter of months.

Athleisure
Thoughts: This trend has been here for a while now with celebrities such as the Jenner’s and the Hadid’s adopting it as their off-duty wardrobe. It’s a hard to ignore someone pairing some yoga leggings with a Birkin handbag as they’re two things you wouldn’t think would work together, but people with more experience in the fashion world than I wear it pretty convincingly.
The Verdict: Despite the unusual accessories sportswear is being paired with today, I think this trend is one that will last. At least for another few years until we decide being smart in tailored trousers is how you should present yourself.

Political statements
Thoughts: Band t-shirts have been worn consistently over the years as it’s a great way to show off what you love, you wear your t-shirt with pride. T-shirts bearing political statements aren’t too different. The feminist movement is at the height of it’s powers, however you can argue whether Dior actually care about the movement or have they seen an opportunity to capitalise on something people have strong feelings about.
The Verdict: Though I have no doubt feminism will continue to gain strength and people will remain politically aware and active, I think wearing your opinions on your chest is something which will fade with time.

Co-ordinates
Thoughts: This is a trend that started around the 70′s and has come in and out of fashion since. It’s a personal favourite trend of mine, because while it looks great it is very easy to achieve and doesn’t require much effort. Pairing up matching bold prints is the ultimate statement and while you can go crazy with it you can also incorporate this trend into the most basic looks, for example a tracksuit.
The Verdict: Though we may see less of this trend in years to come I think it will always be present on the catwalk and on the streets.

Bold Red
Thoughts: With red being my favourite colour I love this trend, and I love that people are opting to wear bright colours over black and neutrals. Not only does a bright red coat, for example, make a statement, but you can also combine bright colours to create an even more vivid eye catching look. Let’s stop hiding behind dull colours and let our personalities shine!
The Verdict: Unfortunately, I don’t think this trend will be here to stay and by this or next winter we will be back to blacks and greys to reflect the British winter weather. It’s a real shame.
